Mardi Gras!

Last Friday night we had the privilege of attending the annual SPE Mardi Gras Charity Event!  This is an event hosted by the young professionals chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers as a fundraiser for the Willow Springs Boys Ranch

Usually it entails a night of drinks, dinner, socializing with friends, a silent auction, and maybe even some dancing!  This is one of the few “black tie optional” events that Dwyatt and I attend each year, and we truly look forward to it each February.  What’s not to like about a night where you get to give to an amazing organization while dressing up, hanging out with friends, and coming home with our “winnings” from the auction!  This year we won a case of very nice wine, some tickets to the musical Stomp, and some other gift cards to some local restaurants!

Also, this year some of the girls and I decided to wear masks!  Such fun!  Made me feel like I truly belonged in New Orleans!  Maybe next year ;)

Valentines Week

Although it’s late, I wanted to recap our Valentines Day this year.  Dwyatt was actually working on Valentines, and I was taking a midterm on Financial Derivatives.  Thrilling, I know.

We actually celebrated the weekend before Valentines.  In the midst of studying for the upcoming midterm, Dwyatt surprised me with an afternoon couples message & an awesome dinner at PF Changs!  The message was the perfect gift after the stressful week we had, and we truly just enjoyed a relaxed evening together.

On Tuesday morning I got a call from the receptionist at work to say I had flowers waiting for me!  This was the first time I have ever had flowers delivered to work and I was so excited!  2 dozen beautiful roses were awaiting me in the lobby, and I was beaming all day.  What a wonderful husband I have.  I’m so lucky to have a guy who does great things for me all year round, not just in mid-February.  I’m such a lucky girl!!

Yes, I may have gone a little overboard photographing the flowers… however I blame my amazing friend Ashley for introducing me to Diptic, the best iPhone photo app ever (or at least since the discovery of Instagram)!

I’m eXhausted

Have you ever done something that you knew was completely foolish, yet you did it anyways?  This week, I have…  Starting on Sunday Dwyatt decided he was super motivated and wanted to start the P90X program…again.

We have done the program before, and while they are amazing workouts, they are exhausting!  So Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday this week we did P90X.  That meant on work days we were up at 4am to work out for over an hour before work.  Oh and on Tuesday & Wednesday we were up at 4am, worked out, then went to work all day, then sat in class for 4 hours, before finally making it to bed by 11pm.

Needless to say, I am absolutely exhausted this week… and I think that literally every muscle I possess is sore.  If I move, I hurt.  Luckily it’s not a “bad hurt” just a “my muscles hate me but at least they’re getting stronger hurt”.  I just keep telling myself, every time I’m forced to walk up a flight of stairs, “be thankful that the Lord gave you a capable body that is working correctly and allowing you to work out!”

We took a break today,  and have decided that we won’t be able to do the 6-day a week program like they recommend.  Instead we’re going to try 2 or 3 days a week combined with training for the upcoming Memorial Marathon in May!  (ahem… I’m only doing the half… I don’t like running that much!)

Call me crazy?  Apparently I’ll do just about anything to be ready for bikini season! 3 months until I’m on a BOAT!!!

Ice Skating

This post is way overdue, considering we took these photos while in Colorado for Christmas! We went to the mountains for a few days of skiing and enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery and while we were there we found an outdoor skating rink!  It seemed like a very winter holiday activity… so we went ice skating in the mountains!

My brother’s girlfriend just happens to be a hockey player, so she pretty much skated circles around the rest of us.  Literally.  However, we held our own, laughed a lot, and had a great time!  Thank you Mom & Dad for sitting on a cold bench and taking photos for us!  You did a great job working the “big camera”.  You’re the best :)

Lazy Friday

This what a lazy Friday looks like when you’re trying to desperately get over a cold so you can enjoy the weekend! Life is always a little sweeter when you have such a cute little buddy to nap with :)
