I’m officially an Aunt…

… and my new little nephew has 4 legs.

My Mom’s mare had her foal this week!  We have been waiting for almost a year now to meet this new little guy.  We had so hoped that he would be born last week when we went up to Colorado for Easter so that we could see him!  However it wasn’t meant to be, and all we saw was poor Jinx (momma to be) waddling around her stall looking very uncomfortable.  We had a good time though, and got to see some other cute babies while we were there, and Dwyatt found a puppy to play with, so it was well worth the trip.  A few pictures of that day:

Well, we had to fly home, but 2 days ago my Mom called and said that Jinx had her baby! He is such a cute little thing, and I can’t wait to see him in person next month!  I think I’m already in love :)  (but don’t let my Mom know that… she’ll try to sell him to me… and I doubt he would fit in my yard very well…)

One really cool and unique thing about this baby… he has 2 blue eyes!  This is extremely rare for a horse with so much brown on his face, but luckily both eyes are surrounded by black skin so he won’t sunburn!  He’s going to be gorgeous :)

Summer has arrived early…

Summer feels like it has arrived early this year… this past weekend it reached 91 degrees!  There are even June bugs on our patio… in March… It makes me wonder slightly worried that June itself is going to be 125 degrees.

The plus side to summer arriving early is that the trees are full of leaves, all my summer flowers are planted, and the garden is already well on its way!

We planed some baby grape vines this year, in hopes that they will grow up the pergola!  So maybe in about 10 years we’ll actually have some grapes!  That is a giant batch of oregano… If you need fresh oregano, please come help yourself.  Otherwise, I think I’ll be making an entire vat of spaghetti sauce…

Happy summer spring time!

Bedroom Makeover!

March has been a busy month! On top of the usual work and school, we have been re-decorating our bedroom!  This has been a project I’ve wanted to do for several years now. Dwyatt really wanted a king sized bed, and while his vision included just buying new mattress and metal frame and calling it good, my vision was more of a “total redesign”.  :)

We ended up using terra-cotta and teal colors, as we have some teal in our bathroom we wanted to keep.  We changed the orientation of the furniture as well, and now the room feels HUGE!  I love doing projects like this and making the space feel more like “us”.  I’m also glad to that we now have some great bedroom furniture that we will love for many years to come!

Here are a few pics of the finished project:

I found two antique rake heads on Etsy, and used them to hold all my necklaces.  They are so cool, and it’s nice to have everything displayed rather than stuffed in drawers :)
My teal settee… so much fun!  A great place for me to relax and read in the morning while Dwyatt’s still asleep ;)
