This year we ran in the OKC Memorial Marathon…. in April… it’s June. Yes, I have some catching up to do. The Memorial Marathon is held every year in downtown OKC in remembrance of the bombing of the Federal building that literally shook the city on April 19th, 1995. Although I was a child in Colorado at the time, I’m still moved each year by how much it impacted this community and what it means to so many people. Such a tragedy, but the city has shown such strength and hope in the years that followed.
Although we’ve participated in the marathon the last few years, this year was extra special for us because Dwyatt ran his first full marathon! He trained hard for several months, and although he says it was a “bucket list” item, he was so happy to have finally accomplished it. He rant he full in 4 hours and 22 minutes… I was SO impress and incredibly proud of him!
Me? I ran the half. Finished in 2 hours 5 minutes, pretty proud of that as well
However, I think that the best part of the race is that we were actually on pace and ran together for the first 6 miles, before our running routes broke off from one another. We were lucky enough to get some photos taken of us by the photographers while we were running together! What a race!
