60 Years

My grandparents recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary… that’s 6 decades of marriage!  Definitely something worth celebrating!  The entire family got together for a family reunion of sorts and the day was filled with activities centered around family.  Although I only see some of my aunts, uncles, and cousins every couple of years I absolutely love when we all get together!  There is nothing like family, and the bond we all share is so special.

My Mom and my Aunt… two of my favorite girls in the world :)

All the boys took turns “dancing with the bride”…

The cake topper especially designed with my grandparents in mind…  Pap with his pipe, Nana with her cat-eye sunglasses!

The food was excellent… always is with this family it seems…

Pap doing one of his favorite things… playing 42!

Daddy… I love you :)

We even got to play with Sporty… my Mom’s new baby!  He is growing so fast!

Such a cute little thing :)

The whole clan!  Love you family… it was a great weekend :)

Lake Weekend

After my brother’s graduation, he, his girlfriend, and my parents all headed to Oklahoma.  Evan will be moving here for his first year of work so they were apartment hunting!  I am beyond excited to have him live close to me, having family so near will be such an incredible blessing!  Definitely something I’ve come to value over the last couple years living so far away from everyone.

While they were here we made a weekend trip to Lake Tenkiller in eastern Oklahoma.  One of the most beautiful lakes in the state!  In the evenings we walked along the shore, and Evan tried to shoot carp with his bow.  Yes, sometimes we have a tinge of redneck in our family… but it was so much fun!

While we were there we swam, water skied, and soaked up as much sun as we could.  Luckily we had great weather the whole weekend!  Not even the treat of a tornado ;)

By “camping” standards we had some pretty amazing meals.  One night Evan and his beautiful girlfriend, Jessica, made us these fabulous gourmet hamburgers and roasted corn.  Yum!

You would think he could’t swim with all the noodles this had…  crazy boys…

Great weekend!  Missing my family already :)

Another CSM Graduation…

In May we arrived back in Golden for a 3rd graduation ceremony at the Colorado School of Mines.  This time for my brother.  If you had told me that both my husband, my brother, and I would all graduate from the same college I would have never believed it!

We spent the weekend wandering around the quaint streets of Golden, soaking in the nostalgia of our college days, and celebrating with my family.  Like the rest of us were, my brother is so happy to be DONE with college!  Here’s to the amazing future ahead of him… I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things he does with his life.

Ice Skating

This post is way overdue, considering we took these photos while in Colorado for Christmas! We went to the mountains for a few days of skiing and enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery and while we were there we found an outdoor skating rink!  It seemed like a very winter holiday activity… so we went ice skating in the mountains!

My brother’s girlfriend just happens to be a hockey player, so she pretty much skated circles around the rest of us.  Literally.  However, we held our own, laughed a lot, and had a great time!  Thank you Mom & Dad for sitting on a cold bench and taking photos for us!  You did a great job working the “big camera”.  You’re the best :)

Trimming the Tree!

Look!  Posts two days in a row… wow!

Ha ha, ok well for those of you who don’t know, I love the Christmas season.  Love it.  As a follower of Christ I love the fact that during this time of year it seems to me that the whole world is celebrating the Advent of His birth and the anticipation of Him coming again!  I realize there are plenty of people out there who do not celebrate Christmas the way I do, but it just puts such joy in my heart that I find myself overflowing with excitement and love.

So, last weekend it was finally time to go buy a Christmas tree!  This is one of my favorite annual Christmas traditions, because we buy a real tree every year.  We typically just go to the Lowe’s by our house, but to me it’s still a special outing.  Dwyatt looked at me kind of funny when he saw that I was bringing along “the big camera” to capture this little event, but I just wanted a few photos to remember the evening by.  We typically make a whole evening of it: buying the tree, bringing it home, opening a bottle of wine, blasting Christmas music, and decorating the whole house!  Such fun!

Lowe’s had a lot of trees this year!  Oh so many to choose from!

Dwyatt liked this one…

Me too :)

Dwyatt measured to see if it was about the right height… it was so we brought it home!

Next we donned our Christmas hats and pulled out all the Christmas boxes!

This is Weston’s first Christmas… he was excited, confused, and overall not very helpful…

I also got to set up my new Willow Tree manger scene this year, I love it!  (And yes, that is me in my santa hat setting it up…)

Finally the tree was finished!  So beautiful :)  And covered in so many ornaments that all have special meanings to us.

This one of my favorites… I gave it to Dwyatt while we were still dating.  This is what you get  when two engineers decorate a Christmas tree.

I’ll be back soon!  Tonight is our company Christmas party so I’ll be sure to take some pictures of that!

Evan Visits!

Two weeks ago my little brother came to visit us.  He is actually a senior this year at Colorado School of Mines, studying Petroleum Engineering (same as Dwyatt!) so he’s not exactly little… but he is to me :)

He just returned from a semester of study in Adelaide Australia, so it was so great to have him home and spend time with him.  Actually I put him to work!  He and Dwyatt made major progress on the pergola (another post on this later…).  They dug 6 post holes, cemented in posts, and then bolted beams to all of them.  Me?  I just stained everything!  Unfortunately it was oil based stain so I have a few t-shirts that are now beyond repair, but the pergola looks amazing so it was worth it!

On Saturday we spent a day on the lake.  Evan hadn’t seen our boat yet, so it was fun to catch some rays, teach him to wakeboard, and partake an a few refreshing adult beverages :)

Sunday we drove down old Route 66, stopping at Pop’s for some awesome burgers & all the soda you could ever possibly want!  Then we wandered through the eastern side of Edmond, up to the Lazy E arena where they were having a team roping event.  What a great weekend… spending time with family is one of my favorite things!

30 Years & Counting!

Today my parents celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary.  Next week Dwyatt and I will celebrate our 3rd anniversary, meaning that my parents have been married 10 times longer than we have.  Whoa!

These days this is a very impressive feat, and I couldn’t be more proud of them!  They are a wonderful example of what love and commitment looks like.  Life is never perfect, but a lifelong marriage can happen.  It fills my heart with joy to know that they are not only still married, but happily married!

Mom & Dad – you are truly an inspiration.  I look forward to building a life with Dwyatt like you two have built together.  Here’s to 30 more years… Congratulations!!!
